your october plans

spooky season is here and with one week left in the month, there's lots to discover

Hello! Welcome to my first ever newsletter! I got the idea to start a newsletter a few months back after making a personal goal to try at least one new thing per week. I know…it’s an ambitious goal, but in the process, I’ve had the opportunity to find new adventures in my hometown, continue to learn more about myself, and in general, found moments of pure joy. Also, I truly love giving recommendations and researching new restaurants, events, classes, etc. so what better way to share my findings than in a monthly newsletter.

The goal of this newsletter is to inspire you all to find magic in your everyday life! Whether that’s checking out a new museum or going to a pottery class for first time, my hope is this newsletter can provide some ideas to keep you exploring and trying new things. If you end up trying one of my recommendations below, I would love to hear about it!

I imagine my newsletter will evolve over time, and I hope you all can join me on this journey to find some magic.

xoxo, Melissa

books

I attended an event at Omnivore Books on Food in Noe Valley with Paola Velez about her newly released cookbook, Bodega Bakes. It was such a wholesome and inspiring conversation to learn about what inspired Paola to create her cookbook, her process in developing recipes, and what she hopes young inspiring bakers can learn from her. I bought her book (she event signed it!) and I’m excited to try one of her recipes. I highly recommend attending one of their free events in the future!

My goal every year as long as I can remember is to read one book per month. Currently, I am book #8 and hope I can reach my goal by the end of the year. Wish me luck! Here’s what has been saved in my goodreads app lately:

Currently reading: The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot by Marianne Cronin and Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert.

Past reads I loved: Olga Dies Dreaming by Xóchitl González; Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano; The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi

events

I am sharing some really cool events that are happing in Sonoma County and San Francisco in the next week. This list could be much longer, but I’ll only ever share events that I would also check out. You might even see me at the Dia de Muertos celebration in Healdsburg this weekend.
